Our History

Our arrival in Bargemon and our history

After we landed in 1997 in the center of France, our search for the right place and building started. We folded the map of France in two and actually visited everything in the southern half of the country in 3 years. In the year 2000 we move to Bargemon. But after having seen everything from the south, we had lost our heart in this vibrant and beautiful authentic village! « Pearl in Provence » is called by the locals! Bargemon is ‘climate-strategic’ on the south-facing slope of an incredibly beautiful vast green mountain. It is therefore extremely well protected for the north-western mistral wind and also for winter cold. From the south, the Provencal sunbeams play the slopes of the village so that in the winter it hardly ever freezes! Bargemon thus enjoys a unique micro climate on sunny winter days! In the summer it is wonderfully cool because of its high location at about 500m and because all streets and squares are covered with centuries old plane trees that provide plenty of shade. The « new » Bargemon, according to the archives, was founded around the year 800. The large parts of its fortified walls and « gates of the city » still bear witness to this beginning time! But even in Roman times they already knew that it was a unique place and they already had, in the old Bargemon, a lot of refreshing fountains on every corner of the street and on all the village squares! Bargemon, which in the old Occitan language meant « mountain people » has been a magnet for people looking for peace and quiet, clear air looking for a good climate and good food. Up to and including today Bargemon with 9 restaurants and more than 10 art galleries is a delightful nightclub for those who have also come to know it by chance ….Furthermore Bargemon is just a mini-town with everything you need for a wonderful holiday. There are 3 museums, a media library, two bars, various boutiques and shops, a pharmacy …. Bargemon is located in the canton of Callas, a community of 6 villages in « le haut Var » that counts no less than 25 typical restaurants of all shapes and sizes. The location at 500m is ideal for trips to the sea such as, Saint Raphaël and Fréjus but also Saint Tropez, Cannes, Nice & Monaco. Also a trip to Italy is a nice change in your holiday program. Other attractions are: The Abdy de Thoronet from the 11th century, and the first abdy in the world at saint honnorat in Cannes is from the 4th century. The large prehistoric museum of Quinson is also very worthwhile. Mediterranean and Sub-Tropical gardens …. The hinterland of our region is no less impressive. On the north side Bargemon is close to the natural park of the Gorges du Verdon, also called « the Gand Canyon of Europe ». This is one of the most beautiful nature areas in Europe! The pre-Alps with its Mercantour national park can also enjoy vast mountain landscapes with many narrow and impressive gorges such as those of the Verdon.
